According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on 25 June 2021, the deadline for applying for a residence document as a beneficiary of the withdrawal agreement, initially set at 30 June 2021, has been extended until 31 December 2021.

As a reminder, pursuant to the withdrawal agreement entered in to by the United Kingdom and the European Union, British nationals and members of their family residing in Luxembourg before 1 January 2021 retain their right of residence after this date, under the specific status of “beneficiary of the withdrawal agreement”. They can thus carry on working or start paid employment in Luxembourg without having to obtain specific authorisation (see our Newsflash of 20 January 2021).

However, in order to exercise their rights, those affected must apply for a specific new residence document confirming their status as beneficiaries of the withdrawal agreement. This application must be submitted no later than 31 December 2021.
