In a statement released on 29 June 2021, the Government announced that Luxembourg and Germany have agreed to extend the amicable agreement on social security affiliation for cross-border workers who are working remotely, which was due to end on 30 June 2021, until 31 December 2021.

The days spent working remotely in connection with the Covid-19 crisis will continue not to be taken into account when determining the applicable social security legislation for the workers in question in order to avoid a change of affiliation when the 25% threshold stipulated in European legislation has been exceeded. This will be the case until 31 December 2021.

As a reminder, the amicable agreement on social security affiliation for cross-border workers who are working remotely has also been extended (see our Newsflash of 17 June 2021):

-       for Belgian cross-border workers, until 31 December 2021,

-       for French cross-border workers, until 30 September 2021.
