In a press release dated 24 June 2022, the Minister for Social Security announced a transitional period of 6 months starting on 1 July 2022 and ending on 31 December 2022 for social security affiliation for cross-border workers who are working remotely.

During this transitional period, “some administrative tolerance will be applied, allowing cross-border workers to continue to work remotely from their home, without fear of changing their social security affiliation if the 25% threshold provided for in European legislation is exceeded”.

This provision follows the decision by the members of the Administrative Commission for the Coordination of Social Security Systems in the European Union to establish a transitional period for social security affiliation for cross-border workers who are working remotely.

The Minister for Social Security specifies that this provision only applies to social security.
