A new law modifying the modified law of 22 January 2021 was passed on 28 April 2022 by the Chamber of Deputies.

This new law extends the exemptions introduced by the law of 22 January 2021 on family leave up to and including 23 July 2022.

The new law is due to come into effect on 1 May 2022.

As a reminder, since the law of 22 January 2021[1], leave can be claimed, in particular, for family reasons by employees responsible for:

  1. a vulnerable child, as long they produce a medical certificate confirming this vulnerability and the reasons why they should not go to school or a care setting;
  2. a child under the age of thirteen, who, for reasons connected to the health crisis, cannot go to school or a care setting, or who benefit from remote learning, as long as they produce a certificate confirming the relevant situation issued by the national Ministry for Education, Children and Youth;
  3. child born since 1 September 2016.

This law had been extended several times due to the rapid evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic. The last extension was introduced by a law of 28 February 2022 and remains applicable until 30 April 2022.
